Online at last
Wow, it’s been quite a long time since my last post. I’ve gotten really busy. Maybe too busy. Well, my home internet connection was finally setup this morning. I should expect more posts coming soon. I found out that I’m much more inspired to write when I’m online than writing on my good old notepad.
I’ve decided to pursue PHP/CodeIgniter more rather than Ruby on Rails. Both are really good and it’s really hard to choose which one to prioritize on. The deciding factors were there are currently more available opportunities for PHP exploitation and my hosting provider’s RoR/RubyGems installation doesn’t work. Visualize errors like “internal death”. ^_^x
Stay tuned for some changes on this site. I realized that I didn’t really have any topic/subject to focus on for this blog. Which I think is a bad thing cause then I wouldn’t have a goal and a sense of accomplishment. I also have a plan on developing a web application. It’ll be my first real project in PHP/CodeIgniter. I’ll post more details soon.
Crazy about frameworks
I’m getting more serious about the DRY and “not reinventing the wheel” way of thinking. And I’m getting more crazier about frameworks. Which one to use, which one not to use. Recently, my time has been spent more and more on researching and studying about the available frameworks out there. I’ve yet to decide on what to use though. For C#/.NET, I’m looking on Castle and the Microsoft supported Enterprise Library. Both are capable of supporting or being part of an MVC architecture, which is really great. Both support winforms and ASP.NET, and they’re free.
Highly useful free software for your flash drive
I always carry a flash drive wherever I go. It’s especially useful for all those school writeups and assignments that I have to do and of course for carrying source codes so I can work on any computer I can grab. There are however two great applications that you can put in your flash drive. I found these while looking for solutions to my problems and needs:
Having fun with Joomla! and WordPress
As the title says, I’m currently having fun learning and using Joomla! and WordPress. For the uninformed, Joomla! is a website content management system and WordPress is a weblog content management system. Both are quite similar but built for different purposes. Joomla! is more suitable for business and organization websites, large websites in particular. It makes managing website content much easier and with faster updates. WordPress is more focused on blogs and also much simpler than Joomla!. Basically, for both Joomla! and WordPress, you’ll just have to make themes or templates to have a website running. This site uses WordPress.
Keeping my computer legal
Here in The Philippines, software piracy is very rampant. Microsoft XP, Microsoft Office, Visual Studio, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Studio, name it, almost every IT enthusiast have cracked or illegal software. You can’t blame them though, commercial programs are just too expensive when purchased here in this country compared to the US or other parts of the world. And most people, being trained with commercial software in college, find it too hard to switch or even find alternatives (free software). And some, use illegal software because everybody’s doing it. It’s almost second nature for everyone.
Birth
The site’s online at last, quite timed with the New Year. I did the site design and template for Wordpress (Lines and Shades), I think I’d probably release this in the future. For now, it’s in the beta version.
Hope you people had a good New Year celebration. I had a normal yet painful one. And I realized that I am now officially really addicted to the internet. I’ve gone through 3 days with no internet and it was a nightmare. Every minute my mind itches with every thought or question on Java, Python, and C# which I will never find the answers to without Google. Ah, the suffering. Good thing I have Final Fantasy X to pass the time.
